About Poster Design

Hi! My name is Macy McClarin, I am 18 years old, and I have been designing for almost five years. I am also certified in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I have always had a passion for music. In recent years, I have fallen in love with classic rock, punk rock, fem punk, and more. Though I grew up with Pat Benatar, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, and other iconic rock artists, Joan Jett has become a staple in all of my playlists. In the past year, I combined my passions for music and graphic design to design vintage-inspired, colorful band posters, and have even branched off into designing posters for my high school's musicals, shirts for my colorguard and marching band, and graphics for my sister's small business. It would be a dream and an honor to be chosen as Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' poster artist. As a freshman at the University of Florida, the prize money would propel my studies in graphic design forward and inspire me to put more of my design skills out there. Joan Jett is an inspiration to me, my confidence, and my love for music, and I thank you for considering my design.

    Hi, I'm Macy! I am an 18 year old designer from Decatur, GA. I started designing in Fall of 2018, as a freshman in high school. I immediately fell in love with this new art form. I continued the graphic design course throughout high school, having the opportunity to do some freelance work and design posters for two of our school musicals. In January 2021, I started my small business, Dark Magic Supply. Dark Magic started out as an outlet for me to make sticker art for my fandoms, such as Harry Potter, Marvel, and pop singers. In August 2021, I expanded to designing posters for my favorite artists and movies. Some of my favorite designs have been inspired by Greta Van Fleet, Sex Pistols, Harry Styles, and The Beatles. I am certified in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, and am currently enrolled at the University of Florida to earn a BFA in Graphic Design. If I were to describe my design aesthetic, it would be colorful, retro, and heavily inspired by artists of the 70s and 80s.
