Well disciplined singer, versed in The Alexander Method, Speech Singing, advanced mimicry. All styles are possible! Working slowly still towards a Berklee bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance. Over a decade of experience in recording, engineering, and working in executive production.
Five years in the making - working for and recording on a lot of projects directed by Jimmy Haslip and Scott Kinsey, in Los Angeles. Some Writing, Singing, and Publishing credits include ARC TRIO With MSM Schmidt and John Daversa : "Arceology", with Scott Kinsey- "Thought Distortions" (coming 2025), " "Adjustments" (viral 2021 release), "Luniwaz Live: Live at Jazzdock" (2024), Scott Kinsey Group and the Bujazzo feat Mer Sal Live at the Koln Philharmonic (coming 2025), New album of Mer Sal and Scott Kinsey (coming 2025). With Jimmy Haslip, "Dream: Parkinson's Project" (2020) by Karl Sterling, Mer Sal is writing 3 tunes and singing 5 on another ARC Trio album with MSM Schmidt (coming 2025-2026). with Vera Vanatko: Vera's Heartbeat: Native Dancer Series: Gift to Wayne Shorter (2023). Mer Sal has notably released an album full of special guests ranging from Scott Henderson to Pedro Martins to Danny Carey, with Los Angeles jazz synth kingpin Scott Kinsey, called "Adjustments." Mer Sal recorded on "Native Dancer Series" for Wayne Shorter, by Vera's Heartbeat, toured with We Speak Luniwaz: The Music of Joe Zawinul, sung on ARC Trio's records with Jimmy Haslip and John Daversa Big Band, and sang several tracks on The Dream - by Karl Sterling.
Performing live, Mer Sal is always supported by world class instrumentalists - for example, Scott Kinsey, Gergo Borlai, Hadrien Feraud, Jamie Kime, Gary Novak, Toshi Yanagi, Francisco Fattorusso, Charles Ruggiero, Travis Carlton, Jimmy Haslip, and several others!
Her sets can be a mixture of jazz, fusion, Latin, authentic soul, funk, and blues. She produces and sings her own songs and creates wild avant gard cover arrangements with some of the most relevant fusion musicians today!
Mer has been compared to other rising singers of the fusion, jazz, and blues scene, but what makes her unique is the line she walks so evenly between jazz fusion, midcentury American music, and 2000's R&B.
